The leader of UK Independence Party has been chosen to run for UKIP's deputy leadership, the party says.
In an unusual move, Andrew Brons, UKIP MP for South Thanet, has already served as the party's deputy leader and has been listed for the leadership race.
UKIP has faced controversy over the choice of Mr Brons for this race, with some accusing leader Nigel Farage of playing politics, according to the BBC's Caroline Wyatt.
Mr Farage has said he believes a greater chance of winning the leadership race, because he is a "more experienced" candidate and former minister.
The UKIP leader said, however, that people "need to vote UKIP in order ensure that our movement will win the next election".
He said it was his "mission" to lead a third referendum on UK membership of the European Union, and next elections for local councils should be about re-electing a local UKIP group, not prime ministerial candidate.
Speaking to BBC Breakfast, Mr Brons said he had received an email from Mr Farage asking him to apply for the role.
